At Poppleton Road Primary School we value and respect the thoughts and opinions of our children in helping to move our school forward. We believe it is important that every child’s voice is heard and that pupils feel empowered to shape their own education.
Throughout their time at Poppleton Road, pupils are regularly asked about their learning experiences, wellbeing, and interests. This feedback helps us to continually improve teaching and learning, ensuring all children experience success in their learning and a genuine enjoyment of school life.
Children have the opportunity to represent the school as one of our Children Leaders, School Council and Eco Warriors . These responsibilities allow pupils to contribute to our school community, working alongside staff and peers to make Poppleton Road an even better place for everyone.
We gather pupil voice on a wide range of areas including learning, behaviour, after-school clubs, lunchtimes and how safe children feel in school. The outcomes of these discussions directly inform the changes and improvements we make, ensuring that Poppleton Road Primary continues to be a school where every child feels listened to, valued and included.

We really got to connect when cooking together, we were able to talk about how to do it, we helped each other and worked together as a team (y6).

History
What do you like most about History lessons and learning about History?
-Cool knowing about what happened in the past and how this has shaped us and made us who we are, lifestyles and differences in culture and technology.
-Teachers talk through the information and model what to do in lessons- learn lots of different information from the past and how this shapes us. Teachers use artefacts and photos from the past to help engage.
–Enjoy finding out new things about people and why they did certain things- loved Amy Johnson, doing art and drawing and facts. Fun learning about where we come from and how things were different.
Sustainable Schools
How do we show we care about the environment at Poppy Road?
We love our world! ( Year 1)
- Lots of recycling. It is fun to sort the pens and I like helping the Eco Warrior. Litter picking up the road was brilliant. I didn’t like to see how much rubbish there was. It was really sad, why do people not just throw their rubbish in the bin? There are lots of bins everywhere or just take it home.
- Scrap paper drawers. Good to practice ideas
- Bottle and pen lids
- Clothes like uniform
- We learn about things that happen in our world like massive fires and volcanoes exploding
